ImageLocate

Privacy Policy

Effective date: September 26, 2026

In short: ImageLocate analyses your photos on your device. There are no accounts, no analytics, no advertising and no tracking, and we — NAV-INT-LLC, the publisher — receive none of your data. Your photos are not uploaded, unless you switch on Apple's Private Cloud Compute, which is off by default. Optional online lookups send public services only short text, coordinates or dates, to answer that lookup.

ImageLocate ("the app", "we", "us") is published by NAV-INT-LLC. This policy explains what the app does with your information. It applies to the ImageLocate app for iPhone and iPad.

What we collect

Nothing. We have no server that receives your photos, results, location or usage, and the app contains no analytics, advertising or tracking code. We cannot see how you use the app or which photos you analyse.

Your photos

You choose photos through Apple's photo picker, or take one with the camera; the app sees only the photos you choose. It reads their metadata — for example when a photo was taken and, if present, where — and analyses the picture on your device with Apple's frameworks: text recognition, scene and object detection, geometry, and Apple's on-device language model.

The app keeps a history of your analyses — the results and a small thumbnail of each photo — in the app's storage on your device. It also keeps "personal landmarks": a compact visual fingerprint (not the photo) of photos you have confirmed with a hint, so similar photos can be recognised later. Neither is uploaded or synced. You can delete history entries and personal landmarks in the app, and deleting the app deletes everything it stored.

Apple services built into iOS

Apple's handling of these requests is covered by Apple's Privacy Policy.

Optional online lookups

With Online enrichment switched on in Settings (it is on by default), the app may send the following to public services to improve a result. Each can be switched off individually, or all of them at once. None of these requests contains your photo, your name, or any account, device or advertising identifier.

ServiceWhat is sentWhy
Apple MapsBusiness or street names read in the photo, and an area to searchFind those places on the map
Wikipedia and Wikimedia CommonsPlace names or coordinates; public reference images are downloadedIdentify landmarks and nearby places
OpenStreetMap (Nominatim, Overpass)Names read in the photo, coordinates, an area to searchMatch names to map locations and nearby features
Open-MeteoA coordinate and a dateCompare the weather in the photo with the weather recorded that day
AWS Terrain TilesThe map tiles covering an areaMatch mountain skylines against terrain
Open Topo Data, Open-ElevationA coordinateGround height, for estimating the floor a photo was taken from

Like any website, these services see the network address a request comes from. They are run by third parties under their own privacy policies; we have no agreement with them to receive or use data about you, and they do not send us anything about you.

Your location

The app asks for your location only when you use Find That Spot, which points you back to where a photo was taken. Your location is used on your device for the directions and is never sent anywhere or stored.

Camera

The camera is used only to take a photo for analysis, when you choose to.

Children

ImageLocate collects no personal information from anyone, including children under 13.

Your rights

Because we hold no data about you, there is nothing for us to access, correct, export or delete on your behalf — everything is on your device and under your control. If you have a question about your data, email us and we'll answer it.

Changes to this policy

If this policy changes, the new version will be posted on this page with a new effective date. Material changes will also be noted in the app's release notes.
